One of the biggest parts about working in any creative role is being able to listen to feedback and take it constructively. By its very nature, a good idea is something unique, something untested before and therefor something that other people will feel strongly about, one way or another. Thus, occasionally, people are going to think your work is shit.
Here, for your entertainment, is a selection of some of the best and most bizarre feedback I have received over the course of my career. All of it is completely genuine.
Client: Were you high when you wrote this?
Me: I don't do drugs.
Client: Don't. We're scared enough as it is.
Client (Person A): This is completely off brand and not at all what we wanted.
Client (Person B): Haha, this is absolutely genius! Forget that Person A doesn't like it; he's a knob.
Me (to both): Erm, good?
Client: This is great but could we use this asset that my design team created on Microsoft Paint?
Me: Thanks for this asset, client, your 'design team' have done a great job. We've taken this on board and created our own asset based on it (it will work better online, you see.) Thanks again for all your hard work.
Client: My editor isn't happy with the use of the word 'lads'.
Me: Would you prefer 'fellas?'
Client: Perfect!
And finally...
Me: I've put those assets up on Facebook for you.
Client: Great, is there any way we can make the feedback look more positive?
Me: You mean, lie?
Client: Not lie, just change all the negative feedback to look more positive.
